Proofed: American metal - A Blend

16/08/10  ||  InquisitorGeneralis

Proofed are a double malt, fully hopped, triple chambered, Texas smoked Pantera rip-off… but they aren’t half bad. Actually, they are surprisingly fucken good. Therefor, please enjoy the following song set to the sound and beat of “I’m broken” by the mighty Pantera themselves.

“I wonder if Proofed realized
they sound just like the men they idolized
Hey I love Pantera too, saved metal for me and you
thrashing, grooving, they did it best
Many copies have been laid to rest
“American blend” is one of the best
Such values the Cowboys taught. That’s how
Look at Proofed noooooooooow!

Duh duh duhduhduuuuuuuh Proof’s ok
But not that gggggrrrrrrreeeeaaaaaat
Duh duh duhduhduuuuuuuh Proof’s decent
But nothing iiiinnnnsssaaaaannnneeee”

One day Pantera died,
Proofed is here. To make it right
The play us groove with decent skill.
They try hard, to keep it real,
this metal for those with southern blood
They aren’t perfect, but give ‘em time
To make something that doesn’t copy Dime. That’s how
Look at Proofed nooooooooooow!

Duh duh duhduhduuuuuuuh Proof’s not bad
They sound goggggooooooooddddd
Duh duh duhduhduuuuuuuh Proof’s alright
For them there’s hhhhooooopppppppeeeee”

Here’s the English version: the band is cool especially the drumming. The vocals are a bit weak but fit the groove style of the songs so no major harm done. The bass player really kicks some ass which is a plus. These young longhorns can actually write a song too, “Broken frame” really kicks some ass. I would compare “American Blend” to Exhorder’s “The Law” and that ain’t a bad thing, son. The production is inconsistent though and some cheesy parts like the “Hey Hey Hey” chanting on “X a.m.” also dock Proofed a few points. Solid parts though like the killer breakdown and following solo in “Beyond detonation” help balance that shit out though.

“American Metal” suffers from the same malady as the music it is named after: inconfuckensistency. For every Death, America shits out an Atreyu, Arsis and Misery Index compete with Attack Attack and Bless the Fall. We gave the world Obituary and Deicide…and Winger and Warrant. Sorry about that one. Thankfully, there are more good than bad songs on here and with an improved production and more effort into every song Proofed might be able to brew up a killer record. I will be patiently waiting, and sippin’ on SoCo and Robotussin, for them to do just that.
